Art + Disability + Aimee Mullins

I’m way into this TED talk video of athlete/actress/activist/hottie Aimee Mullins. She brings up a lot of interesting points regarding disability identity (especially as a disabled woman) and the intersections of art and impairment. Several things jumped out at me from the video- her talking about kids very natural curiosity about disability, which is trained to be stifled and feared by adults; people giving her the backhanded compliment of “you’re disabled… but you’re so pretty!” And the fact that she has legs designed by Alexander McQueen and worked with Matthew Barney from the Cremaster Cycles is just DOPE. Watch the video and enjoy!
