Wow. It has been one incredibly slow day for disability news. Which is lucky for those of you who golf, because otherwise there’s no chance I’d be reporting this next story:

America’s first golf course built specifically with accessibility in mind is set to open next summer outside Chicago. The Links Across America outpost will be a non-traditional four-hole course with no set tees, and, says Class A Superintendent (whatever that title means…anyone? Anyone?) Mike Sprouse: “We brought people in from disability groups during construction to make sure everything was accessible. We are creating a chance for people who might never get involved with the game to finally have that opportunity.”

Similar projects are planned for Arkansas, Georgia, and Wisconsin. It’s a little ray of sunshine in a sport whose clubs still segregate based on race (even black Republican leader Michael Steele has had to deal with the discrimination).

Call me when they start breaking ground on the first accessible putt-putt course.
